For a Healthy Skin and Coat with Borage Seed Oil, Oil of Evening Primrose and Flaxseed Oils
The essential fatty acids "EFA"s" are poly-unsaturated fats that the body cannot manufacture and must be obtained from food and supplements. Essential fatty acids are "essential" because they produce prostaglandins , or in other words, provide the body with what it needs to manufacture cell membranes, which is the thin wall that surrounds all cells. Cell membranes regulate the passage of materials into and out of the cell. If a cell is damaged, the cell may not get the nutrition it needs to function properly.
When EFA levels are inadequate, a variety of problems develop including:

Hair loss |

Dry, scaly skin |

THE WELLCOAT DIFFERENCE
WellCoat is produced with the highest quality blend of natural oils from borage, primrose, sunflower, flax and fish. This combination provides a rich source of Omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids including Linoleic Acid (LA) and Gamma Linoleic Acid (GLA). WellCoat promotes healthy coat and skin, quick healing and proper cardiovascular function.
ABOUT PROSTAGLANDINS
Prostaglandins are hormone-like substances that regulate many of the body's functions, such as the immune response and inflammatory pathways. Prostaglandins are produced from Omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids and they must be in proper balance to maintain optimum cellular functions.
OMEGA 3 ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS
In the body, Omega 3 EFA's are produced from Alpha- Linolenic-Acid (ALA). They include EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) and DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid). The Omega 3 fatty acids are especially important to the health of the heart, brain and cell membranes. The Omega 3 in WellCoat™ is from fish oils.
OMEGA 6 ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS
Omega 6 essential fatty acids are made from Linoleic - Acid (LA) and include Gamma- Linolenic acid (GLA) and Dihomogamma Linolenic acid (DGLA) Omega 6 fatty acids also include Arachiodonic acid (AA) a non-essential Omega 6 fatty acid. The body uses GLA and DGLA to produce the PGE, series of prostaglandins, which support immune system function, skin health and regulate pro-inflammatory reactions. The Omega 6 sources in WellCoat are Primrose Oil and Borage Oil.
OMEGA 9 FATTY ACIDS
Omega 9 or Oleic acid is a monounsaturated fatty acid and is not considered essential because the body can produce it. Some of the health benefits associated with Omega 9 are related to the cardiovascular support and control of cholesterol. Flaxseed Oil is the source of Omega 9 in WellCoat.
ABOUT CLA
Sunflower oil is a rich source of Linolenic acid. Through a special process, Linolenic acid is converted into Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA). CLA in supplement form is necessary since it is very difficult to obtain optimal amounts through diet alone. CLA enhances the immune system and modulates inflammatory events. It also reduces body fat, tones muscles, increases metabolism and helps to support blood glucose metabolism.
ENSURE PROSTAGLANDINS CONVERSION
Research shows that much of the value of LA and GLA is related to their conversion to prostaglandins. Tryptophan, zinc, pyridoxine (Vitamin B6), niacin (Vitamin B3), Vitamin C, B1, and B2 are all-important co-factors in this conversion. In addition, the value of this product to maintain healthy cell membranes cannot be overestimated. Providing a quality vitamin/mineral supplement, such as WellTabs® Dog formula, would assure these essential co- factors are present in adequate levels.
Suggested Use:
As a dietary supplement, 1 capsule per 30 lbs of body weight daily. For animals weighing less than 20 lbs, give 1 capsule every other day.
