Competing Theories
Modern pet nutrition, as practiced by today's premium pet food manufacturers, can essentially be broken down into two schools of thought. Some experts and companies are proponents of the premise that scientifically engineered meals are the best sources of a nutritious diet. They claim that we now possess a clear understanding and ability to breakdown what are truly the essential components of a quality meal. Then they seek to extract only the critical elements of those ingredients, taken from numerous sources, and to piece them together in order to form a potent meal. These companies will often take a vitamin from one source, a mineral from another and so on .Often the initial source of some of these ingredients are not even extracted from food sources that the animal would have ever considered eating in the wild.
The other school of thought is that Nature will always offer animals the purest and most powerful food sources, and that these sources contain still untold and unknown benefits, and support mechanism to aid the body's metabolic processes. This theory supports the idea that engineered diets come close - but never quite completely replicate -the purity and goodness of a meal created from ingredients provided by the planet’s natural resources. That the best formulas are those that strive to offer these natural ingredients, with no by-products, artificial additives or preservatives. They require that ingredients that are derived from the most wholesome sources and prepared with a process that maintains the complete integrity of the nutritional benefits.
The Wellness® Philosophy
We here at Wellness® enthusiastically subscribe to the second theorem. That being said, we never discount the value that science has displayed in our working knowledge of animal nutrition. We have always tried to combine the best of both worlds, using science to help us select the best natural ingredients and how best to prepare our formulas and using Nature to provide only the purest, whole foods for use in our nutritious meals.
