Wellness® Natural Pet Food Feeds Philly Dogs In Need

Tewksbury, Massachusetts (April 10, 2009) – Tails are wagging in Pennsylvania because Wellness® Natural Pet Food, under the auspices of its charitable arm, the WellPet Foundation, has donated 2.5 TONS of dog food to The Pennsylvania SPCA’s (PSPCA) new Pet Food Bank located at the PSPCA’s Philadelphia Adoption Center.

With the nation’s economic crisis now affecting Main Street as well as Wall Street, many animal organizations are facing challenges in providing enough food and proper nutrition to record numbers of pets in need. The animal lovers at Wellness, dedicated to doing the very best for the pets who depend on us, could think of nothing more meaningful than to provide a gift of sustenance for those dogs in Philadelphia who give their guardians unconditional love, trust and companionship.

"We, along with many pet parents who are visiting our food bank, are so grateful to Wellness for making such a significant donation in this time of economic hardship", said PSPCA Chief Operations Officer Lisa Rodgers. "Wellness has shown their dedication and love for animals through the gift of food."

To demonstrate their commitment to ensuring pets enjoy a healthy, happy, long life through natural nutrition, Wellness has donated 5,365 pounds of Wellness Super5Mix® Large Breed Puppy Health, Wellness Super5Mix® Large Breed Adult Health, and Wellness Super5Mix® Small Breed Adult Health to the PSPCA Food Bank. The food donation will alleviate some of the financial burden local pet parents, who could use a bit of extra help, are facing. The PSPCA Food Bank is open every other Sunday, from noon-3 p.m., at the PSPCA's Philadelphia Adoption Center located at 350 E. Erie Avenue. Food is distributed on a first come, first served basis.

The Philadelphia branch houses a full-service animal hospital, obedience training academy, adoption facility and the PSPCA Law Enforcement Department, which is responsible for enforcing Philadelphia and Pennsylvania animal cruelty laws. In Philadelphia, the Animal Care and Control Team Powered by the PSPCA (ACCT) is charged with enforcing the City’s animal control codes, as well as finding homes for Philadelphia’s thousands of stray and surrendered adoptable animals via rescue, foster care and adoption.
