Wellness® Supports Guide Dogs of Texas, Inc. and PAWSitive Approach Program
Tewksbury, Massachusetts (August 7, 2008) - The Wellness WellPet Foundation® announced today a $2,000 donation to Guide Dogs of Texas, Inc.
Guide Dogs of Texas, Inc. is a non-profit organization based in San Antonio, Texas that is committed to raising, training and placing guide dogs with visually-impaired Texans. Guide Dogs of Texas, Inc. relies on the PAWSitive Approach Program which enables previous criminal offenders to learn life skills while training puppies to become guide dogs. The program has saved the state of Texas an estimated $25,000 per year because of reduced disciplinary actions.
The Wellness donation will provide guide dogs to the visually impaired, allowing them to have a more independent lifestyle. The donation will also help with training expenses encountered by the PAWSitive Approach Program, allowing the success of training the puppies to continue.
"We rely on Wellness dog food for the health and wellbeing of our pups in training as well as recommending it to our clients," says Michelle Pelletier, Puppy Raising Program Manager. "Guide Dogs of Texas is very grateful to receive this $2,000 grant that will help offset the training expenses in our PAWSitive Approach Program."
The Wellness WellPet Foundation's donation reflects the mission of the company's Wellness WellPet Foundation: responsibility, passion and commitment, as the company works to do the very best for the pets that provide us with unconditional love, trust and companionship.

Guide Dogs of Texas, Inc.is a non-profit organization based in San Antonio, Texas. The entire organization is committed to raising, training and placing guide dogs with visually-impaired Texans who seek to be lead away from the isolation and dependence caused by blindness. It is the only guide dog school in Texas and is accredited by the International Guide Dog Federation in the United Kingdom.
The PAWSitive Approach Program is a highly successful collaborative with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and with the Warden of the Fabian Dale Dominguez Jail in western Bexar County. Since 2000, dozens of offenders have gained valuable life skills while training puppies to become guide dogs. To date, this program has recorded zero recidivism for the offenders who have completed the program and is estimated to have saved $25,000 per year of the State of Texas funds because of reduced disciplinary actions. The life-changing impact with these young men is tremendous. A similar memorandum of agreement with the Travis County Sheriff's Department in Austin, Texas is being implemented this year.
