Yes — Wellness WHIMZEES® Dental Treats are designed as a daily dental chew to support your dog’s dental care routine. WHIMZEES are scientifically crafted to support the 4 areas vets checks most: Breath, Plaque, Tartar, Gums, when chewed daily. The right size treat depends on your dog’s size and age, so follow the feeding and sizing guidelines on the package, count chews toward your dog’s daily calories, and supervise your dog while chewing.

Wellness WHIMZEES® are not suitable for dogs weighing less than 5 pounds or dogs under 3 months of age. Dogs 3–9 months old should only receive Wellness WHIMZEES® Puppy chews.

Wellness WHIMZEES® Dental Treats help clean dogs’ teeth through mechanical chewing action that helps reduce plaque and tartar buildup. Their firm texture encourages longer chewing, while their unique shapes, nubs, and ridges are designed to reach different areas of the teeth, including along the gumline.

They do work when used consistently: Wellness WHIMZEES® Brushzees® have demonstrated a significant reduction in tartar and plaque in independent kennel studies when chewed daily and have received the VOHC® Seal of Acceptance for tartar and plaque reduction.

Choosing the correct size is the most important step in giving Wellness WHIMZEES® Dental Treats safely. Match the chew to your dog’s weight or breed size using the sizing chart on the package [link to sizing chart; list sizes, e.g., Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large with weight ranges]. Wellness WHIMZEES® are not suitable for dogs under 5 pounds or dogs under 3 months of age, and dogs 3–9 months old should only receive Wellness WHIMZEES® Puppy chews.

Always supervise your dog while chewing and make sure each piece is adequately chewed before swallowing. If your dog tends to gulp treats whole, choose a larger size or talk to your veterinarian.

Dental care is an important part of a dog’s or cat’s overall health because poor oral hygiene can lead to dental disease — one of the most common health issues in pets. In fact, 70% of pets have dental disease*, which can involve plaque and tartar buildup, inflammation, gingivitis, and periodontal disease. Common signs of dental issues in dogs and cats include bad breath, red or swollen gums, yellow-brown tartar on the teeth, and difficulty chewing. Regular dental care — brushing, dental chews, and veterinary checkups — can help support a healthy mouth, and early prevention may help reduce the frequency and severity of dental disease later in life.

No. Dental chews should be part of a broader dental-care routine, not a replacement for tooth brushing or professional veterinary dental cleanings. Every dog’s dental needs are different, so the best teeth cleaning routine for dogs combines daily dental chews, regular tooth brushing with a dog-safe toothpaste, and veterinary dental checkups and cleanings as recommended by your vet. Wellness WHIMZEES® Dental Treats are designed to help reduce plaque and tartar buildup between brushings and vet visits.

Wellness WHIMZEES® Dental Treats for dogs are made with limited ingredients – potato starch, glycerin, powdered cellulose, lecithin, dried yeast, lat extract, sweet lupin meal and alfalfa extract. They are made with vegetable-based ingredients, making them vegetarian and a natural dental chew option for dogs. See the full ingredient list on each product page.

Dental care is important to a dog’s health because lack of dental care can lead to dental disease. Dental disease is a very common health issue, affecting 80% of dogs* with small breeds and senior dogs at the greatest risk. Dental disease includes any health issue affecting the mouth, including inflammation, tartar, gingivitis and periodontal disease. Prevention early in life may help reduce the frequency and severity of dental disease later in a dog’s life.

Every dog’s teeth are different and the best care for them is a combination of dental treats, tooth brushing and annual dental checkups. The good news is that by actively helping reduce plaque buildup on a daily basis, pet owners can promote an overall healthier mouth for their dog that can lower the need or delay the requirement for costly veterinary dental cleanings.

Plaque can start to accumulate in as little as 24 hours. To best support plaque control for dogs, dental home care such as toothbrushing or providing a dental treat ideally needs to be administered daily. Most dogs enjoy gnawing and chewing, so giving them a tasty dental treat such as WHIMZEES® on a daily basis not only is a way to look after their teeth, but also provides a reward they look forward to. When used on a daily basis, WHIMZEES® is proven to lower plaque and tartar to support healthier teeth, gums and fresher breath. In terms of making dental care a daily habit, we suggest weaving it into other daily routines like breakfast or dinner time, or at times when you brush your own teeth!

While dental treats all focus on encouraging a dog to chew and have some form of mechanical abrasion on their teeth to remove the plaque and tartar, chews work in different ways. With a firmer texture, WHIMZEES® chews are proven to last longer than a leading competitor chew and with a longer chewing time, dogs can experience a longer cleaning time# to support their dental health.

The chewy textures of other dental treats are designed to encourage a dog’s tooth to sink into the product with each bite to mechanically abrade the teeth. Compared to WHIMZEES®, leading brands with softer dental treats have been shown#, to have a lower chew time for a shorter cleaning time.

  • With a firmer texture, WHIMZEES® promotes a longer chew time to keep dogs occupied but most importantly, an increased cleaning time.
  • Natural Ingredients: WHIMZEES® uses the very best natural ingredients to create dental treats that not only support a dog’s dental health but that are also perfect to feed on a daily basis.
  • Unique Shapes: Grooves help work the chew into smaller spaces between dogs’ teeth, hollow shapes and spaces allow teeth to grip and chew even in the hard to reach places of their mouth and unique ridges & nubs help clean each tooth to support gum health and fresher breath.
  • Limited Ingredient Recipes: With just 6 primary ingredients that contain no meat proteins or grains (excluding rice bone that contains added rice), WHIMZEES® dental treats deliver a limited ingredient treat that can be suitable for more dogs, especially those with ingredient sensitivities.
  • Vegetarian: WHIMZEES® does not contain any animal proteins for dogs that are suffering dietary intolerances or food sensitivities.

At WHIMZEES®, our adult chews are designed specifically to help remove plaque and tartar for dogs over 9 months of age. For younger dogs we have developed tailored puppy chews suitable from just 3 months of age. With a softer texture to support both deciduous and permanent teeth, and cute teddy bear or rubber ducky designs, these chews can help start every dog on a great daily dental routine from when pet parents first bring home their new puppy.

WHIMZEES® are made using limited, all natural, vegetable-based ingredients. We do not use any ingredients that have been made by or from animals or animal byproducts, which makes every dental treat vegetarian. The high-quality ingredients that we use are all certified on this topic.

Since our products are sold across a global market, we always recommend that pet parents check with the country/local regulations on the how and the where. The bags cannot be recycled in the US or Canada; however our corrugate boxes and plastic containers are. We recommend reusing our WHIMZEES® Variety Container tubs for your next order of WHIMZEES® to keep them fresh!

<Using only all natural ingredients, WHIMZEES® chews may adapt slightly in the natural environment and become more flexible in warmer humid climates and appear firmer in the cool dry months. Because of their adaptable nature, we recommend storing your treats in a sealed container when storing them at home. You can also treat your dog to WHIMZEES® bulk products right away and can be assured that the functional benefit of our WHIMZEES® dental chew will maintain the same regardless of the environment. We always advise store staff to replenish bulk boxes with suitable rotation principles to ensure you always receive the freshest WHIMZEES® dental chews.

We do hear from non-canine pet owners in the hopes that they can feed our WHIMZEES® treats to their small animal pets. Unfortunately WHIMZEES® dog dental treats are only suitable for dogs and should not be fed to any other animals. If you’re a cat parent, check out our new WHIMZEES cat dental treats!

While malt can contain gluten, WHIMZEES® are crafted with a special malt extract with a limited amount of gluten. This is achieved as we produce in accordance with human grade standards, enforce strict supplier selection of ingredients and limit overall the amount of malt extract in our treats. We are proud to say our WHIMZEES® dog products fall below the level determined for human regulation as gluten-free.

Wellness WHIMZEES® Cat Dental Treats are made for adult cats 1 year of age and older and are not recommended for kittens, because kittens have unique nutritional needs during growth and development. For adult cats, these cat dental treats offer a crunchy, dental-care option designed specifically for their life stage, helping support cat dental health as part of a routine that includes veterinary checkups.

For best dental results, feed 8 WHIMZEES® dental treats twice a day in conjunction with your cat’s regular meals.

WHIMZEES® Dental Treats are recommended from 1 year of age. They are not recommended for kittens due to their unique nutritional needs for growth and development.

WHIMZEES® Dental Treats deliver a crunchy porous texture that supports mechanical abrasion while a cat chews.  This dental cleaning action has been scientifically proven to reduce plaque and tartar build up to support dental health.

To deliver a crunchy texture that allows a cat’s tooth to sink into each treat for optimal cleaning, WHIMZEES® Dental Treats are scientifically designed with an increased internal porosity or puffed and aerated like texture. This design ensures that the treats do not shatter upon instant pressure from the tooth but rather that it optimizes cleaning around all surfaces of the tooth as it sinks into the treat.

To achieve this integral texture, wheat is carefully used by our scientific team of experts due to its ability to deliver a puffed up and aerated texture in the finished product

Yes. Cats should always have free access to clean water to support healthy hydration.

To maintain the crunchy texture of the treat, it is not recommended to add wet food or water onto the treats as this can reduce the mechanical abrasive nature of the treat and thereby lower the dental benefit of the treat

Every treat that a cat eats will deliver a dental benefit as they chew. The recommended daily amount is determined to support best dental results associated with the extended chewing time that directly relates to eating the 16 treats total. Should a cat eat less than the recommended amount, the same dental health benefits cannot be guaranteed.

Designed with fresh chicken first, WHIMZEES® dental treats support a taste cats love and are available in 3 different and delicious flavors to ensure every cat has a recipe they love.  Chicken, Chicken & Salmon and Chicken & Tuna.

WHIMZEES® Cat Treats are 1.7kcal per treat. If a cat consumes the recommended 8 treats twice a day serving, they will consume 27.2 calories total. For a 9lb cat, they typically need to consume 225-250 calories / day.

Due to the size difference of a dog’s teeth compared to a cat’s teeth, WHIMZEES® Dental Treats are not designed to clean a dog’s teeth.  WHIMZEES® dental treats are designed to support a cat’s dental health. Should a dog accidentally eat some of the cat’s treats, he may enjoy a delicious snack but should not expect any adverse effects. Should the pet parent want a treat that cleans their dog’s teeth, WHIMZEES® make a whole range of delicious and scientifically proven dental treats.
